Llewelyn Davies, as part of a consortium with Arup and New Era Design Institute Shanghai, was requested to develop a master plan to expand Xi’an Xianyang International Airport into a regional/international portal and traffic hub to provide increased access to the western world.

About the project

The objective of the master plan was to provide design capacity for the entire airport of 26 million passengers per annum (mppa) by 2020, 48 mppa by 2035 and an ultimate capacity of 60 mppa. The Phase 1 development was entirely integrated with the existing termini and airport facilities and proposed a new 170,000 sq m, centralised Terminal 3, with piers to the south and north of the main terminal building.
