Wuhan is one of China’s largest economic, financial, commercial and trading centres. A select list of international consultants including Llewelyn Davies were invited to participate in a design competition for the new domestic terminal at Wuhan Tianhe Airport.
About the project
Our design proposals focused on expansion needs to fulfil forecast requirements of annual passenger throughput of 10 million passengers by 2015, 25 million by 2030 and for developments beyond. The design of the 100,000 sq m terminal was reinforced by a grand over-sailing roof structure above the departures forecourt with natural daylight penetrating the internal spaces below. The undulating form and distinctive profile of the lightweight roof structure were designed to permit ease of prefabrication and construction assembly techniques.
