An attractive, flexible, and functional terminal building and master plan have been developed. At the core of the design is a stunning new terminal that will serve as the airport’s focal point. Approaching from the east, visitors will be greeted by a dramatic, contemporary terminal that is visually striking from every angle.
About this project
Our multidisciplinary team began the design process by exploring and evaluating a wide range of terminal organisational and transportation principles. We drew on best practices in airport planning, our extensive global experience, and the specific requirements of this project. After considering various options, we quickly determined that a new terminal, located adjacent to the existing International Terminal, would be the most suitable choice for the long-term needs of the airport. This design would provide a capacity of 2.5 million passengers annually, with the flexibility to accommodate future growth.

With broad planning and organisational principles in place, our next question was: How can the terminal reflect the national culture, identity, and optimism, while creating a lasting impression for both the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands and visitors? Through our collaborative efforts, we developed an integrated planning, architectural, and engineering concept for the terminal. The new terminal will be located to the west of the existing terminal, in a prominent area southwest of the main highway access road. It will feature a linear design, with additional aircraft stands to accommodate increasing traffic.

The terminal has been designed to be highly functional, efficient, and flexible. Passenger and baggage processes will be streamlined and organised optimally. The building’s form, the logical sequence of events and spaces, and clear signage will guide passengers smoothly from the curb to their aircraft, and back again upon their return. The terminal, and the airport as a whole, will efficiently serve both origin, destination, and transferring passengers, providing them with state-of-the-art facilities and a Class A experience.
