Llewelyn Davies was appointed to develop a detailed brief and concept design for a Research & Education building connected to the new Papworth Hospital. The detailed brief included Room Data Sheets and a Schedule of Accommodation. The Concept Design included 1:200 detailed layouts for all areas, as an ‘exemplar’ for a Design and Build contract.
About the project
The building contains 7,500 sq m of research laboratories, support facilities, administrative offices, seminar rooms, lecture theatre and an in-patient Clinical Trials Unit. Client representatives from Cambridge University Medical School, Papworth Hospital and Cambridge University Estates Management & Building Service formed a Key Stakeholders Briefing group. A series of workshops enabled the formulation of the brief and selection of example concept options. Discussions were also held with laboratory managers and technicians.
