The new Nethersole Hospital with 642 beds provides a comprehensive range of clinical services for the Tai Po district of Hong Kong’s New Territories.  The project was the first of its kind in Hong Kong with a fully dedicated day hospital.  The hospital has a gross area of about 56,000 sq. m including staff quarters.

The firm designed the development to take into consideration the large site, with a solution that consists of three 10-storey ward blocks and a series of low blocks housing the diagnostic, treatment and administration departments.  The simplicity of this scheme provided effective linkages between the major functions with direct travel flows and minimum travel distances, and enabled efficient management and operation of this major new hospital.  The architectural design was articulated to take full advantage of views and landscaped surroundings.  Opportunities for future expansion were also carefully considered.
