Steve spoke at the SAFHE/CEASA healthcare infrastructure conference

Steve Featherstone, Director of Llewelyn Davies presented at the SAFHE/CEASA Health infrastructure conference in Sandton, South Africa.

The SAFHE/CEASA biennial event is widely acclaimed as the flagship event for healthcare infrastructure in Southern Africa.

It is the single most respected event for the industry bringing together delegates from both the public and private healthcare sectors through an exhibition and a conference. Both SAFHE and CEASA fully support the Government’s mission to deliver quality healthcare services throughout South Africa by assisting in making affordable healthcare services available to all.

This event brings together people who can make a difference in exploring the ever increasing challenges and complexities, in order to find affordable and meaningful solutions. Designing, constructing, equipping and staffing along with operations and maintenance are becoming complex issues for healthcare planners and subsequently require much more innovative and creative thought for future sustainability.

Steve’s presentation was titled Indeterminacy in Hospital Design – 50 years on: Relevant or Redundant. The presentation summarised the original thinking of Richard Llewelyn-Davies and John Weeks and evaluated a number of recent international case studies to assess its validity today. The talk concluded by stating that the original concepts remain as vital as they did 50 years ago, provided they are concurrently understood within today’s other driving themes.
